The Institute of History, as part of its scientific activity, has organized numerous academic events since its establishment. It has held scholarly roundtables, conferences, and symposia dedicated to important events and figures in national history. These events have involved the participation of both Albanian and international researchers. Through its scientific work, the Institute of History has also laid the foundations for international cooperation with counterpart institutions in the region and beyond.
About the Institute
Founded in 1967 by the Assembly of Kosovo, the Institute of History is the leading research institution dedicated to the study of Kosovo's history. Its roots trace back to 1946, evolving through a series of commissions before becoming a full institute in 1980. Despite political repression during the 1980s and forced closure in 1992 by Serbian authorities, the Institute continued operating independently. Since 1999, it has reestablished itself as a center of scholarly activity, collaborating with institutions in Kosovo and Albania. It publishes the scientific journal Kosova and leads major research projects, including the comprehensive macroproject History of Kosovo.
